Sven Spierling-Meine is an artistic photographer living in the Neanderthal town Mettmann in Germany.
Sven specialized in documentary and portrait photography. In documentary photography his special interest lies in exploring youth (sub-)cultures, social movements and street life.
In portrait photography Sven focuses on classic portraits besides experimental images. His portrait photography strongly includes the surrounding environment, characterized by experiments with light, shadow, forms and materials with shifting textures.
Sven run various photo-educational workshops using creative analogue techniques. His workshops have been concerned with building pinhole cameras (DIY), cyanotype and analogue photography including photo developing and working in a darkroom.
He uses various classic analogue formats such as 35mm, medium and large format, as well as digital techniques.
Sven prefers to work with old camera technology and lenses. Sometimes he uses color films, but mostly he shoots black and white.
Capturing moments has fascinated him ever since. That’s why creating photos, finding the right perspective, composition and thereby communicating with people fascinates Sven and drives him constantly to develop new creative ideas.
Sven graduated in social sciences and social education at the University Duisburg/Essen.
